FAQ's about FUE hair transplant surgery.
Do I have to use finasteride (Propecia, Proscar) to achieve a better hair transplant result?
Finasteride is effective on your native hairs only, and does not improve the hair growth yield rate. In some cases, it is useful to use Finasteride to improve the quality and thickness of your native hairs for a better blend in with implanted hairs and fuller look.
How long will I keep my transplanted hair?
The hairs we implant comes from your “Safe Zone” donor region, which is resistant to DHT Hormone, therefore they do not fall off again once implanted.
Will I ever have to come back for a second hair transplant procedure?
Every case is unique and individual results vary. There are several reasons why a patient would visit us again; Patient has lost majority of the hair on top and require over 4000 Grafts. Patient is still young and may lose more native hairs in future. Patient desires a higher density than we provide. Patient is not satisfied with the result, which is very rare.
Do you encounter any poor or bad results after a hair transplant operation?
As every other doctor, we encounter poor results from time to time, but rarely. There is no single doctor in the world who only has perfect results. This is a medical procedure and therefore comes with a success rate. At our clinic, we have a success rate of 98%.
How long does an FUE operation take?
A FUE hair transplant operation usually takes between 4 and 6 hours. As the operation is carried out under local anaesthetic; you may watch a film or read magazines during the whole operation.
How safe is the hair transplant procedure?
A hair transplant operation is considered as Level1B procedure, meaning it is considered at the same level with an outpatient walk-in treatment. As we do not do any hormonal change or similar treatments, a hair transplant operation also comes with no side effect.
What happens before the hair transplant operation?
You will have a blood test, and a consultation with your surgeon directly. Then we will work with you to decide your frontal hairline level in front of a mirror by drawing with pen. You should not consume alcohol for the 4 days before the operation. We advise against people with cardiac or hypertension problems having this operation, as the risk to health is too high. The patient should eat before the operation.
Which part of my hair is considered the donor area?
We harvest the healthy hair follicles mainly from the two ears at the back of your neck. In some rare cases, we use body hair (BHT) as well, to increase the density.
